Laser vs IPL: the difference

A laser emits a single wavelength that one target absorbs — pigment, water or haemoglobin. That makes it precise, suited to tattoos, resurfacing and deep work. IPL (intense pulsed light) is a broad spectrum filtered for the task; it works well on vessels, pigment and photo-rejuvenation of larger areas. Instead of classic IPL, Harmony XL Pro uses AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technology): part of the spectrum is converted into the working range, so the effect is more targeted with less stray light. Contraindications apply; a specialist consultation is required.

How the doctor chooses a module

At the consultation the doctor defines the goal (vessels, pigment, tattoo, acne, texture, scars), your skin type and skin condition. Pigment and vessels usually call for AFT light modules, tattoos for Q-Switched Nd:YAG, texture and acne scars for ClearSkin or Erbium, deep scars and wrinkles for Pixel CO2. Treatments are often combined in one plan. Prices for every module are in the cosmetology price list.

Pixel CO2: fractional CO2 laser, 10,600 nm

Pixel CO2 (Alma Lasers) is the deepest form of fractional skin renewal. The laser vaporises micro-columns of tissue and heats the dermis around them, while the untouched skin between the points speeds healing. Recovery time and strict SPF are needed.

FAQ

? How is a laser different from IPL? ⌄

A laser is one wavelength with a precise target (pigment, water, haemoglobin). IPL is a broad spectrum for larger areas. Harmony XL Pro uses AFT light instead of classic IPL, converting part of the spectrum into the working range.

? Which Alma Lasers lasers does Paramed have? ⌄

The Harmony XL Pro platform (Dye-VL and Dye-SR light modules, ClearLift, Q-Switched Nd:YAG, ClearSkin, Erbium, NIR, Excimer 308) and the fractional Pixel CO2 laser. For hair removal — the Soprano range.

? What works for pigment spots? ⌄

Most often the Dye-SR light module or photo-rejuvenation; for deeper pigment the doctor may suggest a laser. The choice depends on the pigment type and skin type and is made at the examination.

? Is there downtime? ⌄

Usually none after light modules and ClearLift. After Erbium and especially Pixel CO2, yes: a few days of redness and peeling; the doctor gives the exact time at the examination.

? Where can I see prices? ⌄

On the treatment pages and in the cosmetology price list — prices there come from the clinic's single catalogue.
