The CO2 laser (10,600 nm) both vaporises microcolumns of tissue and heats the surrounding dermis, so collagen contraction and remodelling are stronger than with non-ablative methods. Resurfacing is delivered with the fractional Pixel CO2 handpiece on an Alma Lasers platform. The CO2 beam at 10,600 nm is absorbed by tissue water and creates a grid of ablative microchannels surrounded by a zone of controlled thermal effect. That zone produces the signature CO2 result: immediate collagen contraction followed by prolonged new collagen synthesis. Intact skin remains between the channels, serving as a reservoir for healing and making fractional CO2 considerably safer than classic full-field resurfacing. Spot density, energy and the number of passes are set by the doctor — from a moderate protocol to deep work on scars.

Preparation & aftercare

Before the procedure

Consultation and examination: the doctor sets the type of resurfacing, mode and depth.
Stop active sun, tanning beds and self-tanner 2–4 weeks before.
Stop retinoids, acids and abrasive scrubs 5–7 days before.
If you are prone to herpes, antiviral prophylaxis is prescribed beforehand.
Discuss isotretinoin in advance — a wash-out period may be needed.
Plan the session so that you have a few quiet days afterwards.

After the procedure

Redness, swelling and tightness in the first days are an expected reaction.
Use the prescribed healing products and never pick the crusts.
SPF 50+ daily and at least a month without strong sun or tanning beds.
No sauna, pool, sport or steaming for the period your doctor specifies.
Make-up only after the epidermis has fully recovered.
Acids and retinoids only when the doctor clears you at the follow-up.
Contact the clinic immediately if pain increases or you notice discharge or fever.
