Orthonyxia is a non-surgical correction of an ingrown or involuted toenail. At Paramed we use the German Podofix system: a small plastic brace with hooks is fixed to the nail, gripping its lateral edges. The brace applies a gentle, constant force that gradually flattens the nail, lifts its edges and stops them from digging into the soft tissue. The method is painless, requires no cutting or removal of the nail, and you can return to normal life immediately after the procedure. It is especially suitable for recurrent ingrowth and for anyone who wants to avoid surgery. At the consultation the specialist assesses the nail; contraindications apply.
Before the procedure the specialist assesses the nail and surrounding tissue and, if needed, relieves inflammation. The nail plate is then prepared, a correctly sized Podofix brace is bonded on and the tension is adjusted. The whole procedure usually takes 20–30 minutes and is painless. As the nail grows the brace is periodically adjusted; the total wear time depends on the condition of the nail and is set at the consultation.
Podofix (Germany) is a composite-based orthonyxia brace system. The brace is bonded to the nail plate with a special adhesive, the hooks gently lift both lateral edges, and the central wire adjusts the tension. This soft, continuous pull changes the nail's geometry over a few weeks — the nail starts to grow back in a correct, flat shape. The brace is almost invisible, can be covered with nail polish, and does not interfere with daily activity.

No, fitting the brace is painless and needs no anaesthesia. A mild adjustment sensation is possible in the first days.
Wear time depends on the condition of the nail and is usually from a few weeks to a few months. The exact period is set at the consultation.
Yes. The brace is invisible, does not interfere with work, sport or footwear, and you can apply nail polish over it.
Surgery removes part of the nail; orthonyxia keeps the nail and gradually corrects its shape. It is a less traumatic approach with no downtime.
The method may be limited with active purulent infection, severe vascular disorders, decompensated diabetes or gross nail-plate deformity. The decision is made at the consultation.

Book a visit →The orthonyxia treatment typically involves an initial consultation followed by the placement of the Podofix brace. After the initial placement, follow-up sessions are scheduled to adjust the brace as the nail grows. The total duration of the treatment can vary based on the condition of the nail, but patients can expect to have regular reviews to monitor progress.
Orthonyxia with the Podofix brace is a non-surgical alternative to traditional surgical methods for treating ingrown toenails. Unlike surgery, which involves cutting and removing part of the nail, orthonyxia gently corrects the nail's shape without any downtime or pain. This method is particularly beneficial for those who wish to avoid the risks associated with surgical procedures.
At Paramed in Baku, we pride ourselves on using the original Podofix system from Germany for ingrown toenail correction. Our experienced specialists provide personalized treatment plans and regular follow-ups to ensure the best outcomes.
