Overview

Onychogryphosis is a thickened, deformed, often claw-like nail caused by injury, pressure, fungus or age. A podologist thins and reshapes the nail with apparatus and sterile burrs, restoring a comfortable shape; underlying fungus is treated separately. Contraindications apply.

Benefits

  • Comfortable nail thickness and shape
  • Less pressure and pain in shoes
  • Better appearance of the nail
  • Option to treat underlying fungus

How it goes

The podologist assesses the nail, thins and reshapes it with sterile burrs and advises on maintenance. Painless, short procedure.

How it works

The nail is thinned and modelled with sterile burrs to a comfortable thickness and shape, relieving pressure in shoes. If fungus is present, we combine it with the ClearChoice laser protocol.

  • Apparatus thinning of the nail
  • Sterile burrs, hygienic
  • Relieves pressure in footwear
  • Combine with laser if fungal
  • Maintenance on schedule

Preparation & aftercare

Before the procedure
  • Have a podologist consultation before the procedure.
  • Keep feet clean; wear comfortable shoes on the day.
  • Remove nail polish in advance.
  • Tell the specialist about diabetes, allergies or active infection.
After the procedure
  • Keep the feet clean and dry.
  • Follow the specialist's home-care advice.
  • Avoid tight footwear and long soaking.
  • Use recommended creams/antiseptics as advised.
  • Keep to the maintenance schedule.
