Laser skin resurfacing is a controlled fractional renewal of the skin: the laser removes microscopic columns of tissue and heats the dermis, triggering new collagen synthesis. At Paramed in Baku it is performed on Alma Lasers platforms — the fractional Er:YAG laser at 2940 nm (standard and iPixel modes) and the fractional Pixel CO2 laser. It is used for uneven texture and post-acne, atrophic scars, fine to moderate wrinkles, enlarged pores and age-related changes. Depth, density and the number of passes are chosen by the doctor after an examination — from a light renewing protocol with short downtime to deeper work on scars. The treatment is ablative, so it requires a recovery period and strict sun protection.
At Paramed, laser resurfacing runs on Alma Lasers platforms (Israel). Fractional means the laser treats the skin as a grid of microzones rather than a continuous field: untouched tissue is left in between and healing spreads from it. The Er:YAG erbium laser at 2940 nm (standard and iPixel modes) gives more superficial ablation with less residual heat, so downtime is shorter. The fractional CO2 laser (Pixel CO2, 10,600 nm) combines tissue vaporisation with strong dermal heating — stronger remodelling, longer recovery. Choosing between them and setting density, depth and passes is the doctor's decision at the examination.
A fractional renewal of the skin: the laser removes microcolumns of tissue and heats the dermis, and the skin then heals with new collagen. It works on texture, post-acne, scars and wrinkles.
Erbium is gentler: less residual heat and shorter recovery. CO2 goes deeper: a stronger effect on scars and texture but longer downtime. The doctor decides at the examination.
Erbium — 300 AZN for the full face (150 for half, 100 for one-third), Erbium iPixel — 400/200/150 AZN, CO2 — 300 AZN for the full face (150 and 100 for half and one-third). Prices in AZN; confirm current pricing at the consultation.
Erbium usually 3–5 sessions at 3–6-week intervals; CO2 more often 1–3 at 6–8-week intervals. The exact plan follows the examination.
A topical anaesthetic is applied 30–45 minutes beforehand. You feel warmth and prickling; for deeper protocols the doctor can strengthen the anaesthesia.
Shorter after Erbium and longer after CO2: several days of redness, swelling and peeling. The exact period depends on the depth chosen and is explained at the examination.
Yes, with strict SPF 50+ and no active sun — though in summer we usually choose a lighter protocol or move deeper resurfacing to autumn.
Yes, with care: darker phototypes need correct settings and Erbium is often preferred, which lowers the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Do not pick the crusts, avoid sauna and pool, no sunbathing, and no acids or retinoids until the doctor clears you.

| Parameter | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Session length | 20–40 minutes (full face) |
| Number of sessions | Erbium: 3–5; CO2: 1–3 — by indication |
| Interval between sessions | 3–6 weeks (Erbium) / 6–8 weeks (CO2) |
| Downtime | Erbium: usually shorter; CO2: longer — the doctor gives the estimate |
| When results show | First changes once the peeling has finished |
| Final effect | Collagen keeps remodelling for 2–3 months |
| Anaesthesia | Topical numbing cream; deeper protocols at the doctor's discretion |
| Seasonality | Year-round with strict SPF; lighter protocols in summer |
Erbium and CO2 solve similar problems but strike a different balance between depth of result and length of recovery. Here is how we choose between them at Paramed.
Paramed is a laser dermatology and aesthetics clinic in Baku. Resurfacing is performed by a doctor on certified Alma Lasers platforms (Harmony XL Pro, Pixel CO2). An examination and skin diagnostics come first: we assess your phototype, barrier condition and any related conditions, then select the mode and depth. The consultation is free.
